It is also a destination: Lake Allatoona, Red Top Mountain State Park, the Etowah Indian Mounds, the Tellus Science Museum and the Booth Western Art Museum all draw visitors.

Interstate 75 Through Emerson, Cartersville and Adairsville

Interstate 75 is the county’s main artery, carrying commuters, visitors and commercial trucks. Bartow’s interchanges include Exit 278 at Glade Road near Acworth, Exit 283 at Allatoona Road in Emerson, Exit 285 at Red Top Mountain Road, Exit 288 at State Route 113 in Cartersville, Exit 290 at State Route 20 toward Rome and Canton, Exit 293 at U.S. 411 toward White and Chatsworth, Exit 296 at Cassville-White Road, and Exit 306 at State Route 140 in Adairsville.

In May 2025, a crash that began in the northbound lanes of I-75 at State Route 140 sent a tractor-trailer across the median into southbound traffic. Three tractor-trailers and three passenger vehicles were involved, the Georgia State Patrol reported three people killed and two hospitalized, and the southbound lanes were closed for hours. Off the interstate, U.S. 411 and State Route 20 carry traffic toward Rome, Canton and the county’s smaller towns.

If You Are Hurt in Bartow County: Practical Next Steps

  • Get emergency care. The Georgia Department of Public Health lists Piedmont Cartersville as a Level III trauma center. Atrium Health Floyd in Rome (Level II) and Wellstar Kennestone Hospital in Marietta (Level I) are also on the state list.
  • Get the report number and the name of the agency that responded.
  • For an I-75 crash worked by the Georgia State Patrol, request the report through a State Patrol post or the Department of Public Safety Open Records Unit, with the date, county, names and report number.
  • For a crash worked by another agency, the Georgia Department of Transportation says reports can be purchased through BuyCrash or requested from GDOT by mail.
  • If a commercial truck was involved, photograph the trailer, the company name and the USDOT number on the cab.
  • Confirm whether you have uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage (O.C.G.A. § 33-7-11).
  • Talk to a lawyer before giving the trucking company or its insurer a statement.

Filing an Injury Lawsuit in Bartow County

Bartow County does not have a State Court. A civil injury case filed in Bartow County generally goes to Bartow County Superior Court, which sits in the Frank Moore Administration and Judicial Center at 135 West Cherokee Avenue in Cartersville; the Clerk of Superior Court is in Suite 233. Bartow County Magistrate Court, at 112 West Cherokee Avenue, Suite 101, handles civil claims of $15,000 or less. The proper court also depends on where the defendant lives or does business, so a crash in Bartow can lead to a lawsuit elsewhere.

When a government entity is responsible, the notice deadline may come well before the lawsuit deadline. Claims against Bartow County generally require written ante litem notice within 12 months (O.C.G.A. § 36-11-1). Claims against a city such as Cartersville or Adairsville generally require notice within 6 months (O.C.G.A. § 36-33-5). Claims against the State, including some involving state roads, require notice within 12 months (O.C.G.A. § 50-21-26).

Accidents and Injuries We Handle in Bartow County

Car Wrecks on I-75 and Local Roads

Georgia is a tort state, so the driver at fault and that driver’s insurer answer for the damage. Georgia’s 25/50/25 minimum limits may not cover a serious injury, which makes your own coverage important. Read our car accident page.

Tractor-Trailer Crashes

Tractor-trailer crashes on I-75 often involve questions about driver fatigue, maintenance and qualifications, all covered by 49 C.F.R. Parts 390–399, including Part 395 hours of service and Part 396 inspections. Georgia law can allow the trucking company’s insurer to be named directly (O.C.G.A. § 40-1-112 and § 40-2-140). See our truck accident page.

Motorcycle Crashes on Rural Roads and Exit Ramps

On rural two-lane roads and busy interstate exits alike, a driver who misjudges a motorcycle’s speed or fails to check a blind spot can cause devastating harm. Learn about motorcycle accident cases.

Pedestrians and Cyclists in Downtown Cartersville

Downtown Cartersville, museum areas and park roads bring people on foot and bike close to traffic. Drivers using phones in violation of the Hands-Free Georgia Act (O.C.G.A. § 40-6-241) put them at risk. See our pedestrian and bicycle accident pages.

Injuries at Hotels, Restaurants and Attractions

Hotels, restaurants and attractions that serve visitors can be responsible when an unsafe condition they should have fixed leads to a fall or other injury. Visit our slip and fall and premises liability pages.

Dog Attacks and Bites

Dog attacks can cause deep wounds, nerve damage and lasting fear, particularly in children. An owner who fails to keep a dog under control can be responsible. Read about dog bite claims.

Wrongful Death After a Fatal Crash

A fatal interstate crash or other preventable death leaves families facing both grief and financial strain. Georgia law permits a wrongful death claim, and who may file depends on the relationship to the person who died. See our wrongful death page.

The Statute of Limitations and Shared Fault in Bartow Cases

For most personal injury claims in Georgia, the statute of limitations is two years (O.C.G.A. § 9-3-33). Exceptions can apply, but evidence such as truck data and surveillance video can be lost much sooner. Georgia’s comparative fault statute, O.C.G.A. § 51-12-33, reduces damages by the injured person’s percentage of fault and bars recovery at 50% or more. Insurers often lean on this rule, so a clear record of the crash matters.

If you're a personal injury attorney looking for real, honest feedback about your case, do yourself a favor and schedule a focus group with Alex Hoffspiegel. I have had the pleasure of working with Alex on multiple focus groups, and each time the experience was invaluable. Sure, you'll receive feedback that validates obvious strengths of your case, but you're also likely to receive feedback that you never thought about (and don't like). Sometimes, the truth hurts, but it is best to hear it from 12 focus group members before you step in front of 12 strangers in a jury box, when there are no second chances or do-overs.

My husband and I were involved in an accident where I suffered a pretty intense concussion and some lingering pain. Alex and the entire staff at Hoffspiegal made sure I not only got the care that I needed but helped us navigate the complex legal process (especially when dealing with brain injuries!). We always felt like we could call with any sort of question or concern and that everyone felt like our family! The team truly kept us updated and helped explain every single aspect going on. We are so thankful for Alex and the amazing team he has for helping us through one of the hardest moments of our lives and making it simple and easy.

I’ve had the opportunity to consult with Alex Hoffspiegel on personal injury cases, and I’ve always been impressed by his ability to pick up on the details that matter and read a room exceptionally well. Those are qualities that make a real difference in this profession, particularly when dealing with clients, witnesses, opposing counsel, and juries. Just as importantly, Alex is a genuinely good human being. He relates naturally to people, communicates well, and brings both judgment and empathy to his work. I would not hesitate to recommend Alex to someone looking for an experienced and thoughtful personal injury attorney.

From the first conversation with Alex, I knew he was going to work for me. He answered all questions I had. Ms. Sabrina coached me through the entire process. The both (Alex and Sabrina)of them made me feel as part of a family that looked out for each other. Thank you both for being there for me when I was lost and needed legal guidance.

I was involved in an out of state car accident in Georgia. I was referred to Alex's firm through a Delaware attorney. Alex accepted our case. There were multiple moving parts to this case involving 3 different insurance companies from 3 different states. A lot of laws differed from Georgia laws that Alex normally dealt with. Alex and his team were amazing to work with. Alex familiarized himself with whatever he needed to in order to become knowledgeable about the laws of the states involved. He always made me feel like I was a priority at all times. My case ended up taking over 1.5 years to settle due to insurance companies dragging their feet. During this time, it was like talking to a friend when I would have calls with Alex. He would ask about my family and how things were going. He is very genuine and caring. Alex pushed for me to get a fair settlement. It was a pleasure working with Alex and his team! I would recommend Hoffspiegel Law to anyone looking for a good attorney that treats you like friend and not like a number.
